The Yoruba Summit Group will like to make this press release a statement for posterity.
The reaction of the Umbrella Body for all Yorùbá groups, The Yoruba Summit Group to the order given by The Northern Elders forum in tandem with the posturing of their youth wing, is as follows.
1, That the import of their arrogant and insulting statements in which they seek, albeit laughably, to redefine the perpetrators of unscrupulous violence as innocent victims, are not lost on us.
a, The South is a happy place, peaceful and the people Indomitable.
In the south, we are not aggressors, we live by peace and not given to piece-meal divide and rule tactics and we are rather we should be left alone to continue our lives along such paths of sure and pure humanity. Therefore we heartily welcome this decision to have the herders, the bringers of untold misery, deaths and diseases leave us to our glorious heritage, to our own livestock and lifestyle of thousands of years before this invasion of others came with its attendant pollution and foreign culture that seek to place the life of a cow over and above that of humans.
b, That we in the south are Prescient and conscious of our history, full of the reality of the aggression, massacres that have happened irresponsibly and inhumanly, attributable to both planned and spontaneous killings in the name of the North, executed by the intolerance and terror tendencies thave have over the years blighted and bloodied our history.
c, That history is ever present in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sudan, Rwanda to remind those who think of themselves as having a monopoly of killings as having a sense of Ownership, that it will one day come to a halt. And if that is what this is, we are ready!
d, That genocide, is an ugly word. But an uglier reality, considering the events leading to the Nimbo massacre in Enugu 3 years ago.
The then 24 year old suspect, Muhammadu Zurai, arrested by the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, in company of four others; Ciroma Musa, Saleh Ádámù, Suleiman Laute and Haruna Laute, had this to say then as reported by All major newspapers, “that over 100 herdsmen from 7 northern states”.
Of note was this confession of Muhammadu’s, “after killing the man, I brought out my phone to record, I then said to the corpse, “Your people had confidence to kill Fulani people but now you are dead. Don’t you know that Fulani owns Nigeria?””
Please do not even try to disprove, we have the video.
Over 1000 Southerners were killed in Enugu in that massacre! This is our reality!
2, We are naturally happy to see you go and we wish you Godspeed!
a, We of the Yoruba Summit Group in particular and by extension the people of the South understand the issues clearly enough. If the northern elders calling for the return of the herders are sincere in their call, we should help them in their understanding. So we state as follows:
b, That we are a very different people from those that control, direct and formulate the views of the herders.
Their world view is different.
Their view of relations with other people is different.
Their view of what is True and what is not is different.
Their view of life and death is different.
c, THE TRUTH MUST BE SAID AND IT MUST SINK IN TO ALL NIGERIANS:
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN US, ARE IRRECONCILABLE!
FOR THERE TO BE PEACE, EACH MUST GO THEIR SEPARATE WAYS.
d, THE ONLY THING THAT IS STILL KEEPING THE THE OWNERS AND SHAPERS OF THE HERDER PHILOSOPHY IN THE NIGERIA SPACE UP TILL TODAY, ARE THE RESOURCES IN SOUTHERN NIGERIA.
3, IF THIS SAME TRUTH IS TO BE TOLD, THE HERDERS’ CONTRIBUTION TO THIS UNION REMAINS THE UNTAXED COW BUSINESS…. AND THE SOUTH DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE REMOVAL OF EVEN THE HERDERS’ CONTRIBUTION.
THE SOUTH CAN AND WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT COWS!
a, Taqiyya.. Deceit, Deception..
We of the South are conscious enough to know when a plan, sinister and dangerous, is on the table.
b, Our southern people in the North should place take extra care of one another. A call to abandon a monthly haul of billions of Naira in practically unpaid taxes, is not about to be abandoned.
c, Our extensive investigations have revealed hundreds of sleeper cells already embedded in our forests… A planned activation of the herders’ sleeper cells, or a distraction about a removal of herdsmen…. Which is which!??
We are Not fools!!
They are preparing…
Southerners be warned!!
“Si Vis Pacem Parrabellum” — If you want peace, prepare for a Struggle!
d, We believe this call is a prelude to some premeditated action. It seems to us that some people are accusing Southerners of doing what they have already resolved to do to Southerners.
They need a pretext for their premeditated action. And since the Southerners have wisely given them none, it now appears that they are intent on manufacturing one anyway….
And, that is what we think is at the bottom of this call for herders to head North.
a, In the words of Muhammadu Zurai of the Nimbo Enugu massacre, Fulani leaders rearing cows in Taraba, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Katsina, Niger and Kaduna States contributed representatives to take part in the attack.
A covenant they sealed sealed by sharing of kolanut.
The world is watching and so are we.
Azeez Suleiman recently threatened the Southern Regions…
Then came an upsurge in the attacks by Fulani Terrorists around…
Then their demand for a radio station…
Then the alleged settlement of N100 billion by the federal government…
Then the gambit to grab ancestral lands a la Ruga…
Then the gruesome murder of Funke Fasoranti Olakunrin, the daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the revered Leader of the foremost Yoruba organic socio-political group holding firmly and vigorously to Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s philosophies; The Afenifere, a name the pretenders and fakers won’t leave alone…
Then Miyetti Allah demands that the President Obasanjo be arrested…
Then Tanko Yakassai threatened the Ala-Igbo over their rejection of Ruga…
Then Professor Abdullahi Ango declared that the Fulani could overrun anybody anytime as they are the foremost armed militia in West Africa…
We are Systems Analysts; we analyse situations and observe patterns
b, If the government of the day is a serious one, there are more than enough evidence, even from those who own up to violence for the government to act.
Those who issue jaundiced ultumatums, are often given protection by same government against the victims. Enough of pushing the blame on us victims, Henceforth hold your people in the North responsible first, before the issuance of fake sanctimonious statements on who is a patriot.
c, Our southern people are sellers too — Will an Ijebu garri seller, or Onitsha spare part seller ever come out to claim responsibility for the killings in Zamfara state!??
If they have forgotten, we in the south have not forgotten the countless times The Miyetti Allah has owned up to Terror!
Have we not heard enough from the perpetrators who are not afraid to claim responsibility for all the acts of terror from the herders, their owners and their “sweeper”, militia men, for a responsive and responsible government to act!??
d, If the government must wait for a crisis to happen and then blame it on those “politicizing” it!??
Our advocacy at these critical times to government is that NOTHING MUST HAPPEN TO OUR PEOPLE IN THE NORTH OF THE COUNTRY AND ALSO IN THE SOUTH. NOTHING! SO AS NOT TO PRECIPITATE A WAR!
WE, THE PEOPLE OF SOUTHERN NIGERIA AND THE WORLD WILL HOLD THIS GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBLE SHOULD HERDERS IN THEIR “WITHDRAWAL” CAUSE TO HAPPEN, ANY HARM AND OR INJURY TO OUR LEADERS AND CITIZENS IN THE NORTH OR ELSEWHERE!
In Particular and of note, OUR SPOKESPERSONS AND LEADERS IN THE SOUTH MUST NOT SUFFER HARM OF ANY SORT… UNLESS AND EXCEPT THE WHOLE IDEA IS TO HASTEN A FINAL WITHDRAWAL!
THE VERY LAST OF SUCH INANITY AND IMPUNITY IS THE GRUESOME MURDER OF BARRISTER FUNKE OLAKUNRIN.
NO HARM MUST COME TO ALL OUR PEOPLE!
The Yoruba Summit Group’s minimal demand and by extension, the southern peoples’ critical irreducible demand after the effective withdrawal of herders, is the next natural step of Restructuring by both fiscal and physical processes, to which we are all addressed in the south, immediately!
That way, we both might be jointly agreed upon a path to a lasting peace.
Mogaji Gboyega Adejumo.
